Sparrow House, founded in 2007, is an agency that serves victims of domestic violence. The mission of Sparrow House is to break the cycle of domestic violence by providing education and supportive rehabilitation services that enable women and their children to thrive in today’s society
Beginning in 2008, Sparrow House hopes to begin renovating a three-bedroom house located on 300 acres in Elgin, Texas. This facility will be designed specifically as a rehabilitation center for battered women and their children. Sparrow House’s approach to assisting battered women and their children will go far beyond anything currently offered in the state of Texas and quite possibly, in the United States.
Sparrow House will work hand-in-hand with crisis centers all over the country, offering women and children a logical ‘Next Step’ following intervention and crisis centers. Sparrow House will provide different forms of therapy to both women and children, including animal assisted therapy, therapeutic horticulture, individual and group therapy; 24-hour support and advocacy; substance abuse treatment and assistance in accessing needed resources; outreach counseling and support groups; life skills training; civil legal assistance; court advocacy programs; self-defense training; a teen prevention program in area school districts; a comprehensive children’s program; family, group and individual therapy; positive parenting groups; and a transitional living program.
I am currently in the end stages of writing my grant proposal for a similar type of facility. I would love to receive any feedback or suggestions you may be able to offer on this subject. Thank you and have a blessed day.
